Clearing the way and recycling

As part of the project to restore and conserve the estate’s original Victorian buildings, the 1960s school extensions are now being removed. These later additions, no longer fit for purpose, are being carefully deconstructed to allow for maximum material recovery.

Materials such as windows, timber, plastics, cables, and metal are separated on site and sent for recycling. The reinforced steel – shown here as it’s lifted from the old concrete foundations – is also being processed off-site. From the demolition waste that is removed, all timber is 100% recycled, and remaining materials are sent to a waste transfer station that achieves over 95% diversion from landfill. The approach is systematic and resource-conscious, reflecting the team’s focus on reuse and responsible construction.
