Victorian heritage uncovered

Rayners Penn comprises an array of stunning Victorian buildings which will soon be returned to their former glory.

As plans progress and dismantling and recycling soon begin, the project’s heritage consultant continues to monitor all work.

A comprehensive and detailed photographic record of each structure is being undertaken to satisfy a condition of the listed building consent. The record covers both interiors and exteriors and will serve as an important historical record and valuable tool to inform the design team and restoration work.

Understanding the nature and condition of the historic structure is important to ensure accurate and appropriate repair and secure the long-term conservation of each historic structure. As part of this, condition and fabric surveys are being conducted by a specialist conservation team.

Rayners was originally built with clay from the site and investigations are underway to see if history can be repeated. A specialist team is assessing whether clay can be sourced from site for hand-made bricks.
